Abstract

When this balance is disrupted toward excessive coagulation, thrombosis can occur within the arterial, venous, or microvascular networks, leading to life-threatening clinical sequelae such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke, and myocardial infarction. This condition arises from a complex interaction between inherited genetic mutations and acquired clinical risk factors, ultimately leading to endothelial dysfunction, stasis, or hypercoagulable blood states—collectively described by Virchow’s triad.
