Treatment of Syphilis in Ayurveda with Herbal Remedies

Abstract

In today’s life, sexually transmitted diseases are increasing day by day due to the extra indulgement of teenagers towards sex. The sexually transmitted disease is the type of disease that passed from one person to another through sexual contact. This term is also called sexually transmitted infection (STI) or venereal disease. It’s not like that all STD is spread through sexual intercourse but also spread through sharing needles (Especially drug abusers) and breastfeeding. These diseases may pass from one to another through blood, semen, and other bodily fluids.

In this article, we will discuss Syphilis, its symptoms, causes, and herbal treatment.

Introduction

Syphilis is the bacterial infection caused by a type of bacteria known as Treponema pallidum. This bacterial infection is usually spread by sexual contact. It transfers from person to person through mucous membrane or skin. If Syphilis remains untreated, it can affect your heart, brain, and other body organs such as loss of hearing, loss of memory, loss of vision, infections of the spinal cord or brain. Syphilis is passed through contact with the sore of an infected person or it can also be transferred from mothers to their children during childbirth. The first sign of syphilis is a small round sore which is also called a chancre. It is very infectious and appears on the anus, mouth, or genitals. In the early stages, several antibiotics are used to treat syphilis. Symptoms of Syphilis may vary from stage to stage. In primary and secondary stages, Syphilis is most infectious

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

There Are 4 Stages Of Syphilis Are

1. Primary Syphilis

The primary stage of syphilis starts four weeks after a person catches the bacteria. In primary syphilis, a person gets one or more round, small sore known as Cancre. These cancre are usually small, painless but are very infectious. They happen on your anus, rectum, genitals, mouth, etc.

2. Secondary Syphilis

Sore throat and skin rashes may evolve during the secondary stage of Syphilis. Some symptoms of secondary Syphilis may include

  • Swelling In Lymph Nodes
  • Severe Headache
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of Weight
  • Hair Loss
  • Joint Pain

3. Latent Syphilis

Latent syphilis is the third stage of syphilis. It is also known as the hidden stage. In this stage of Syphilis, symptoms of 1st and 2nd stage disappear. In this stage, the bacteria remain in the body that may lead to the next stage.

4. Tertiary Syphilis

It is the last stage of Syphilis. When proper treatment is not received, people will enter this stage. This stage can be life-threatening. Some outcomes of this stage include:

  • Loss of Memory
  • Deafness
  • Blindness
  • Mental Illness
  • Destruction of Bone and Soft Tissue
  • Neurological Disorders I.E. Meningitis or Stroke
  • Heart Diseases
  • Infection of Spinal Cord And Brain.

Causes

Treponema pallidum is the bacteria that caused Syphilis. Sexual intercourse with an infected person is also the most common cause of syphilis. Through abrasions or cuts in your skin or mucous membrane, this bacterium can enter your body. Sometimes syphilis may develop through close contact with an active lesion. Less commonly syphilis may spread through infected mothers to their babies during childbirth or pregnancy.

Syphilis can’t be spread by using the same bathtub, eating utensils, clothing, toilet, hot tubs, or swimming pools.

Ayurvedic Aspect

According to Ayurveda, Syphilis is correlated with Firang Rog. It was transmitted from European countries to India during the 15th century. Acharya Bhavmishrahad named this disease Firang Rog because this disease is transmitted by foreigners. According to Ayurveda, there are three types of Firang Rog:

  1. Abhayantrafirangroga
  2. Bahyafirangroga
  3. Bahirantargartfirangroga
