Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Introduction

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a complicated and serious condition that usually develops after witnessing or experiencing a major trauma and terrifying happenings or events that might have resulted in a serious threat to life such as physical assault. Sexual assault, unexpected passing away of loved ones, accidents, wars, natural disasters, etc are some of the major reasons that can lead to the development of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In Ayurveda, the mask (mental) and shrink (physical) injury leads to vata dosha aggravation which results in symptoms that are related to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. 1. Avoiding

2. Increased arousal

This results in excessive emotions, showing affection and feelings, difficulty in falling asleep or insomnia, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and anger outbursts. Physical symptoms may include high blood pressure, muscle tension, palpitations, diarrhea, nausea, increased heart rate, etc. 

3. Reliving

A person with PTSD relives the traumatic incident in their memories and thoughts. It includes hallucinations, nightmares, and flashbacks. Anniversaries and birthdays remind them of the trauma.

4. Negative cognitions and mood

Feelings or thoughts related to estrangement, blame, and memory of the trauma.

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a serious condition that occurs due to various major life happenings such as physical assaults, sexual assaults, road traffic accidents that left the victim debilitated, the passing away of loved ones, etc. The signs and symptoms usually include anxiety, headache, fear, hallucinations, stress, etc.
  • In Ayurveda, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can be best correlated with the aggravation of vata dosha. Description of ingredients

Loha Bhasma

Loha bhasma is one of the main ingredients of Vrihat vatchintamani rasa. Loha means iron is known as a potent health booster, a potent immunity modulator, promotes the healthy blood cells in the body, and is known to manage conditions like anemia. Loha increases sperm quality and nourishes the muscles.

Praval Bhasma

Praval bhasma is cold in potency and helps to cure the ailments associated with aggravated pitta dosha. The ailments associated with aggravated pitta are ulcerative colitis, fever, and indigestion. In all such conditions or in other associated conditions with aggravated pitta, this praval bhasma is helpful and manages the conditions. 

Mukta Bhasma

Mukta balsam is cold in potency, sweet, and Pushkar (potent). Mukta balsam helps to manage conditions like improper digestion, and burning sensation in the body due to aggravated pitta, infertility, and depression. The cold potency of mukta bhasma helps to pacify the ushn(hot),tikshna(pungent), and amal rasa (sour) of pitta dosha. Mukta bhasam helps to improve cardiac tone.

Rasa Sindhoor

Rasa sindoor is a combination of Parada and Gandhak. Parada(purified mercury) is designated as shiv veerya. It increases the quality and efficiency of all the ingredients in this herbomineral formulation. Gandhak (purified sulfur) is a potent detoxifier, boosts immunity, and is beneficial in conditions of allergy. Rasa sindoor promotes the vata anulomana (drains the aggravated vata), acts as kaphanisarak (pacifies the aggravated kaph), agni deepak(promotes digestion).  

Swarna Bhasma

Swaran bhasma is a purified form of gold. Gold is sweet in properties, cold in potency, chakshushya (increases vision and eye health), and increases the health status of both males and females. Abhrak Bhasma

Preparation Method

The classical method to prepare the Vrihat vata chintamani rasa is mentioned in Ayurvedic texts. Immersed the swarm in buttermilk along with gairik paste. After completing this process a total of seven laghu putas are given. 10 laghu putas are given to purified parada. After that, add lemon juice to the parade and mix it properly. Add purified Rajat and add it into Agastya patra swaras. After that, it is ground along with gandhak, mercury, lemon juice, and haritala. After going through this process abhrak and loha are added after purifying both in cow urine and Triphala kwath. In the end, bhavana dravya i.e aloe vera extract is added after adding rasa-sindoor. Prepare it in tab form as per the mentioned dosage.
