Abstract

An uncommon condition involving the breast is known as Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM), which is considered as an autoimmune benign disorder of the breast that might be mistakenas two common breast disorders, breast carcinoma and breast abscess. Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is non-malignant, chronic inflammatory breast condition. This disease usually affects women of child – bearing age with a history of using oral contraceptives.

What could be the Causes of Idiopathic Granulomatous Mastitis?

Currently its exact cause is not clear. According to its histology it is considered to be an autoimmune reaction.

• Elevated prolactin levels

• Nipple retraction or in rare case peau d’orange – like changes.
• Pain and inflammation of the overlying skin
