In same way, when body’s protection guard i.e. Immune system begins to attack body’s own cells, the condition of autoimmune disease arises. Normal immune system guards the body against various life-threatening diseases but unfavorable circumstances interferes with its normal behavior and makes it abnormal. Thus, attacking behavior of immune system rises for body’s own cells. Today we are going to study about autoimmune diseases and how one can treat it with natural remedies.

INTRODUCTION

Autoimmune disease can be defined as a disease developed due to abnormal and attacking behavior of the immune system towards the body’s own cells. Normal behavior of the immune system is to differentiate foreign and body’s own cells, but in the case of autoimmune disease, the immune system begins to attack the body’s own cells by mistakes of foreign particles. Immune system can attack healthy cells of your joints and skin by releasing auto-antibodies in it. Some autoimmune diseases affect only one organ while others may interfere with functioning of multiple body organs.

When symptoms emerge, that period is called flare-up, but the period of going away symptoms is known as remission.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES

Some preventable measures can reduce the risk of autoimmune diseases in an individual if followed seriously. Here are some tips to prevent autoimmune diseases:

1. Reduce Exposure of Toxins

Avoiding toxin exposure will help you to lower down the risk of autoimmune diseases. Air pollution, lead, uranium, mercury, agricultural pesticides, synthetic estrogens and excess consumption of alcohol are some factors triggers the development of diseases due to abnormal immune behavior. So, it is suggested to decrease your involvement in these disease inducing factors if you want to stay away from several autoimmune diseases.

2. Maintain Healthy Body Weight

Obesity or excess weight may increase the risk of various autoimmune diseases like Psoriasis, multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel syndrome (IBD) etc. These diseases can be prevented by achieving a proper body weight. Intermittent fasting can help you in reducing weight in a fast way.

3. Focus Gut Health

Studies show that there is a close connection between gut microbes and development of several autoimmune diseases like Type-1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore it is essential to provide health to the gut by avoiding consumption of sugars and grains, drinking large quantities of water, including dietary vegetables and fruits in diet.

4. Eat an Anti-inflammatory Diet

Risk of autoimmune diseases can be reduced by eating an anti-inflammatory diet. An anti-inflammatory diet is a diet which includes vegetables, fruits, healthy fats like omega-3 fatty acids and olive oil and whole food protein sources. Foods like grains, sugars, omega-6 fatty acids, and trans-fats should be excluded in an anti-inflammatory diet because these foods can raise the risk of autoimmune disorders.

5. Take Enough Sleep

Give rest to your body by sleeping for at least 7-8 hours because disturbed sleeping schedule can increase the risk of autoimmune disorders. Get a good quality sleep by going to bed before 10 PM and avoiding use of mobile, tablet, laptop, computer, TV or any screen in bed. By doing this, you can reduce the risk of disturbance in the immune system as well as autoimmune diseases.

6. Quit Smoking habits

If you have a smoking habit, quit it as soon as you can. Smoking habits doubles the risk of autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and autoimmune thyroid disease by making your body inflamed, damaging the DNA and disturbing the functioning of the immune system. So, quit smoking habit as soon as possible.

By following the above given tips, you can prevent autoimmune diseases to a great extent and stay healthy.
