Description of Herbs/ Ingredients

Amalaki (Embalica officinalis)

The guna or properties that amla bears are guru that is heavy and sheeta is cool. With this, it also has five tastes that are sour, bitter, astringent, and pungent except salt but Sour is the dominant taste. It has madhura vipaka and sheeta or cold potency. Amla is tridosha nashak.Vata Nashik by a sour taste, pittanashak by Madhur taste and sheeta potency, and kapha naashak by ruksha property and kashay taste.  Mainly, it is pittanashak but also has the tridosha ghana effect. If used externally it behaves as a refrigerant, is a known hair tonic, and also enhances the complexion. Internally, it strengthens the nervous system, bone marrow, and sense organs. Amla also bears digestion-enhancement properties but in large doses, it is a laxative. It also has hemostatic properties. Generally, its leaves, fruit, and leaf juice are used.

Bhumi Amla (Phyllanthus niruri)

Bhumi amla (Phyllanthus niruri)is a very effective and potent herb that is having multiple uses. It is also known by the name of Dukong anak and possesses properties like anti-inflammatory and reduces hyperbilirubinemia. It also helps in detoxifying the liver and removes the accumulated toxins in the liver. The herb has sheeta virya,tikta (pungent) kashaya (astringent), and Madhur (sweet) rasa (taste) along with laghu and ruksha guna. Due to these properties, it acts as a kapahapitta hara. Low Fodmap Diet

Introduction

IBS is an irritable bowel syndrome that affects the large intestine and causes various symptoms such as abdominal cramps and irregular bowel habits. FODMAP DIET

It stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols. It mainly consists of high fodmap and low fodmap carbs.FODMAPS are considered to be short-chain carbs. Generally sugars in food are broken down into single molecules from complex chains to be absorbed by the intestine easily. But in the case of FODMAPS, the breaking down does not happen since they are already short chains. So it becomes difficult for the intestine to digest. So the intestine draws more water to move FODMAPS from the small intestine to the large intestine. For a longer duration, these remain in the colon and bacteria start fermenting over it producing fatty acids and gases as a byproduct. But not in everyone it produces chronic symptoms. Our gut is designed in such a way that fermentation by gut bacteria is normal and processes some foods that are hard to digest. Only in persons with hampered digestion, the by-products of fermentation give rise to chronic symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, gas, distended abdomen, constipation, and excessive drawal of water may cause diarrhea.

High Fodmap Carbs

Fructose- it contains tomato, red pepper, peas, onions, okra, mushrooms, broccoli, canned juices, honey, watermelons, pears, mangoes, and apples.

Lactose- it mainly contains dairy products like milk, custard, yogurt, and ice cream

Fructans- These include wheat, rye, broccoli, cabbage, onions, and garlic.

Galatians- it includes kidney beans, black lentils, black gram, soya granules, chunks, etc.

Polyols- polyols contain plums, pears, peaches, figs, cherries, avocados, apricots, apples, and sugar alcohols.

Low Fodmap Carbs
