Oil pulling is a detoxification technique used for maintaining or regaining oral health specifically in Ayurvedic system of medicine. Oil pulling is also known as kavala in Ayurveda.

Oil pulling or kaval is in Ayurveda since 5000 years and has been stated about in various Ayurvedic literature like Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, ashtanga hradyam, bhavaprakasha and more.

ARE THERE ANY EVIDENCE OF OIL PULLING IN AYURVEDA?

It is stated in Charaka Samhita that keeping of oil in mouth strengthen jaw and voice. It helps in the development of the face and adds taste and relish in the food. Ayurveda says the person practicing this do not suffers from dryness of throat, lip cracks, and protects teeth from caries and strengthen them. So that they become able to chew the hardest items.

In Ayurveda, Oil Pulling or Kavala is used for the expulsion of doshas known as shodana. Proper measures must be taken in order to then expel them. There are different oils that can be used but in general sesame oil is used.

According to Ayurveda substance that is bitter, acidic, sour and salty should be used.

Coconut oil is sweet, heavy and cold which is opposite to the qualities stated in Ayurveda, i.e. bitter, acidic, sour and salty. So the results will not be same and can be opposite. Detoxification is done with a type of substance that is anabolic (constructive metabolism) in nature.

As per Ayurveda a person following the oil pulling should avoid taking heavy diet and should take light diet, i.e. laghu ahaar because heavy diet can cause a disturbance in digestion and it will be a contradiction to treatment.

Introduction

Adenomyosis is a condition in which the cells that line the inside of the uterus (endometrium) are abnormally located in cells that make up the uterine wall (myometrium). This can result in a somewhat enlarged uterus. Adenomyosis can cause very painful periods and heavy bleeding. There could be Diffuse Adenomyosis that involves the extension of endometrium throughout the uterus lining or there could be Focal Adenomyosis where there is a localized collection of endometrial tissue within the myometrium (leading to the formation of a tumor or nodule).

Adenomyosis

Adenomyosis causes very painful periods and heavy bleeding. It is more common in middle to old age d women but can also occur in teenagers. Adenomyosis is considered benign or not a life-threatening condition but its impact’s a women living in a big way.

Symptoms of Adenomyosis

Symptoms of Adenomyosis varies from woman to woman. Some of the most common symptoms of Adenomyosis are:

  • The endometrial cells are somehow able to migrate and invade the normal uterine wall or the cells in the uterine wall develop into endometrial cells.
  • Women who had prior uterine surgery, cesarean section, may be at the risk of Adenomyosis. Women with short menstrual cycles, childbearing age, and the ones that had an early age of menarche are more prone to get Adenomyosis.

Diagnosis of Adenomyosis

Symptoms and pelvic examination to reveal an enlarged or tender uterus help to determine Adenomyosis.

A pathologist examines the uterus after hysterectomy is completed. MRI is done to diagnose Adenomyosis. An ultrasound is also performed and even Endometrial biopsy is done to rule out other problems.

Adenomyosis goes away after menopause, so treatment is based on the current age of the patient. Anti-inflammatory medicines and diet are often prescribed.   • The patients should avoid caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, acidic foods, spicy foods, and cold foods completely.
