  5. Pippali – Piper longum

  9. Kutki – Picrorhiza kurroa

Brief Explanation

  1. Shuddh parad (Calcined and purified mercury) – The Rasayogas of ayurvedic formulations have detoxified parada as the chief ingredient. It is mentioned in various classical texts that the origin of Parada is divine and authentic, it is mentioned as Shiva-virya. It is a prominent member of kajjali formation and enhances the action of every ingredient. It is an important combination of metallic and non-metallic formulations.
  2. Shuddha gandhaka (Calcined and purified sulphur) – The detoxified Gandhak is also important as the parada in kajjli formation. Gandhaka is anti-inflammatory, promotes immunity, and prevents the body from allergies. It acts on various body infections and boosts up the immune response. It can be beneficial in fevers, dyspepsia, flatulence, ingestion, and mucous membranes.
  5. Pippali (Piper longum) – Pippali belongs to the Piperaceae family. It is best to manage respiratory problems like cough, bronchitis, and asthma and show the sedative actions. Pippali is hot in properties and hence it can be useful to pacify the obstruction.
  6. Tamra bhasma (Calcined and purified copper) – the Tamra bhasam or copper ash is the refined, detoxified, superfine form of the copper mineral. It is mentioned in the classical text as a potent mineral formulation to cure cough and respiratory issues. The properties of copper ash are ushna(hot in potency), katu(pungent), kshaya(astringent), amla(sour) and tikta(bitter). Copper bhasma is anti-aging and promotes longevity as mentioned in classical texts.
  7. Loha bhasma (Calcined and purified iron)– Loha bhasam is the iron ash. It is a refined and detoxified form of iron based on classical texts. In broad aspects, It promotes strength, promotes glow and rejuvenates the health status. More precisely it promotes immunity, promoting the count of RBC and Haemoglobin in the body. It improves immunity and hence cures cough or respiratory disorders.
  8. Kateri (Solanum surattense)– It is mentioned in ayurvedic texts as the name Kantkaari.   10. Dhatura (Datura stramonium)– Dhatura is also called Thorn apple, jimsonweed and stramonium. The chief actions of Dhattura are spasmolytic and antiasthmatic. Also, it acts as an anticholinergic and nerve sedative. Dhatura can produce atropine-like effects and hence it can control bronchial asthma.

Method of Preparation

Take Parad, gandhak, sonth, marich, pipali, tamra bhasma and loha bhasma in equal quantities. Make kajjali of parad and gandhak. Add trikatu powder to the above mixture. Mix it properly with the juice of Kateli for 6 hours. Give 1-1 bhavna of Kutaki kwath and juice of leaves of Dhatura. Make tablets of 1-1 Ratti.

Alternative Treatment for Minimal change Disease

ABSTRACT

Kidney disease resulting in damage to the glomeruli is known as Minimal change disease. It is known as minimal change disease because the pathological changes in the kidneys are not visible under regular microscope. Not many people might be aware about this condition and hence we will be discussing all the details of the disease and its management through herbal remedies offered by Planet Ayurveda.

INTRODUCTION

There are other names as well for Minimal change disease (MCD) like nil disease and lipoid nephrosis. Minimal change disease is the glomerular disease that results in destruction in the glomerulus (filtering units inside kidney) which causes depletion in intravascular volume and edema due to intense proteinuria. It causes nephrotic syndrome which usually affects children however adults can suffer from this disease too. Only the powerful microscopes or electron microscopes can be used to see the histopathologic changes in the glomeruli in Minimal change disease.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

Signs and symptoms appear much earlier in Minimal change disease than any other glomerular disease. The major complaints that generally arises are-

  • Leakage of large amount of protein in urine results in its foamy appearance
  • Different body parts start to swell up like ankles, around the eyes area, etc. This is due to fluid buildup in body
  • This building up of fluid results in increased body weight
  • Other symptoms of nephrotic syndrome like loss of protein in blood, increased level of lipids and fat in blood and edema

CAUSES

The cause behind the MCD in children is not known and is termed as idiopathic however in adults it is usually caused due to some other ongoing disease or long term use of certain drugs. It is termed as secondary disease and the other causes can be allergic reactions, tumors, viral infection and long term use of non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs or specific pain killers.

DIAGNOSIS

Doctors will first go for the medical history in which signs and symptoms will points towards kidney disease and further examinations will confirm the diagnosis of MCD.

  • Urine test for protein or blood in urine
  • Blood test will reveal high level of lipids
  • GFR or Glomerular filtration rate

1. Mutrakrichantak Churna

Medicinal herbs like Varun (Crataeva nurvala), Gokshur (Tribulus terrestris), Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa), Shirish (Albizia lebbeck), Shigru (Moringa oleifera), Kaasni (Cichorium intybus), Apamarg (Achyranthes aspera) and Bhumi amla (Phyllanthus niruri) are used in the formulation of Mutrakrichantak churna. This herbal churna helps in treating all kinds of ailments of disease by preventing protein loss, lowering creatinine levels and acting as diuretic.

Dosage– Take 1 teaspoon twice daily after meals with plain water

2. Rencure formula

It is the combination of the Palaash (Butea monosperma), Gokshur (Tribulus terrestris), Kaasni (Cichorium intybus), Varun (Crataeva nurvala), Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) etc. Standardized extract of all the herbs are used to work together to treat ailments like proteinuria, high creatinine level, low urine output, prevent destruction of the glomeruli and maintain healthy functioning of the kidneys.
